Content Formats AI Assistants Extract Most Easily
Some formats are far easier for AI systems to pull facts from than others. Compare the main formats, with examples of when to use each one.

AI assistants extract facts most easily from formats that separate information into clear units: question-and-answer blocks, tables, numbered steps, short definitions and fact sheets. Long unbroken paragraphs, text inside images and content locked in PDFs or scripts are harder to use. Matching the format to the type of information makes your content easier to quote.
Format 1: Question and answer blocks
Best for: common customer questions, policies, eligibility rules.
Put the question as a heading and answer it in the first sentence below. Example: “Do you deliver to Belgium?” followed by “Yes, we deliver to all of Belgium in 2–4 working days for €9.” This mirrors how people ask AI assistants, so a clean match is more likely. If you add FAQPage schema, make sure it repeats the visible text exactly.
Format 2: Tables
Best for: pricing, specifications, comparisons, opening hours.
A table with clear column headers (“Plan”, “Price per month”, “Users included”) keeps related facts together. Use real HTML tables, not screenshots of tables. Keep one fact per cell and include units.
Format 3: Numbered steps
Best for: how-to guides, setup instructions, processes.
When someone asks “how do I set up X”, assistants often return steps. Start each step with a verb, keep it to one action and add the expected result where useful: “3. Click Export. A CSV file downloads.”
Format 4: Definitions
Best for: explaining terms, products and categories.
A one-sentence definition near the top of a page (“A heat pump dryer is a clothes dryer that recycles warm air instead of venting it”) is easy to quote. Follow it with detail, but keep the definition self-contained.
Format 5: Fact sheets
Best for: company information.
A simple page listing founding year, locations, services, key people, contact details and pricing model gives AI tools a single reliable reference. Update it whenever something changes. Our page on optimizing corporate data for LLMs goes deeper.
Format 6: Pros and cons lists
Best for: honest product comparisons and “is X right for me” questions.
Balanced lists that admit limits (“Not ideal for teams over 200 people”) help assistants match your product to the right buyer and can make your content more credible than one-sided praise.
Formats that hide your content
- Text in images or infographics without the same text on the page.
- PDF-only documents such as price lists or brochures with no HTML version.
- Tabs, accordions or sliders that only load content after a click through JavaScript.
- Video without transcripts.
You do not need to remove these, just provide the same information in plain HTML text as well.
Mixing formats on one page
A good product page might open with a definition, show a pricing table, list setup steps and end with a short FAQ. Each section answers a different type of question, which gives AI assistants several clear pieces to use. For the bigger picture on page layout, see the LLM content structure checklist.
A quick audit you can do today
Pick your three most visited pages. For each, find one important fact (a price, a delivery time, a feature) and check whether it sits in plain text, in a clear format, near a descriptive heading. If not, move it there.
