When an AI assistant says your business has poor or mixed reviews, it is usually summarizing review sites, directories and forum discussions it found or learned from. You cannot edit the assistant’s answer directly. You can fix the underlying problems, respond well to existing reviews, correct outdated information and make it easy for satisfied customers to share honest feedback.

Step 1: Find out what the AI is reading

Ask several assistants questions like “What do customers say about [business]?” and “Is [business] reliable?” In Perplexity and Copilot, look at the cited sources. Common ones are Google reviews, Trustpilot, Yelp, TripAdvisor, industry review sites and Reddit threads. Make a list of each source, your rating there and the most common complaints.

Step 2: Separate fair criticism from outdated or wrong information

Sort what you find into three groups:

  • Fair and current: real problems customers still experience, such as slow delivery.
  • Fair but outdated: issues you have since fixed, such as an old booking system.
  • Inaccurate: reviews about a different company, or claims that break a platform’s rules.

Each group needs a different response.

Step 3: Fix the real problem first

No amount of content will outweigh a steady flow of honest complaints. If customers mention long waits or poor communication, address that in your operations. This is the only lasting way to change what reviews say.

Step 4: Respond publicly and calmly

Reply to negative reviews with a short, factual response: acknowledge the issue, explain what changed, and offer a way to follow up. Public replies are visible text that assistants can read alongside the complaint. For outdated issues, a reply like “We replaced our booking system in spring; online booking now confirms instantly” adds current context.

For reviews that break a platform’s rules, such as fake or abusive reviews, use the platform’s reporting process. Do not try to bury them with fake positive ones.

Step 5: Ask real customers for reviews

Many happy customers never leave a review because no one asks. Build a simple routine:

  • Send a review link after a completed job or delivery
  • Ask everyone, not only customers you expect to be positive
  • Never offer rewards in exchange for positive ratings
  • Spread requests across the platforms that matter in your sector

Step 6: Publish your side clearly

On your own site, explain your service standards, guarantees, response times and how to contact support. If you fixed a known issue, say so on a relevant page. This gives assistants accurate, current facts to combine with review data. If AI also shows no reviews at all, see fixing missing review visibility.

What to expect

Assistants that search live may reflect improved ratings once review pages update. Older impressions can persist for a while. Track progress monthly and focus on the trend.

When the rating is fair

Sometimes the assistant is simply right. If your average rating is low because of a real, ongoing issue, treat the AI answer as useful feedback rather than a visibility problem. Fix the cause, tell customers what changed, and let new reviews reflect the improvement. Trying to hide a fair picture rarely works for long.
