Multi-Location Businesses: Managing Listings for AI Assistants
Chains, franchises and businesses with several branches face a special challenge in AI answers: each location needs its own clear, consistent data.

For businesses with several locations, AI assistants need clear data for each branch, not just the brand. Give every location its own accurate listing and its own page on your website, keep brand-level facts consistent, and make local details such as hours, services and staff specific to each branch. That helps assistants recommend the right location with the right information.
Why multi-location is harder
When someone asks “physiotherapy clinic open late in Clapham”, the assistant needs to match a specific branch, not your head office. Common problems include:
- One generic page for all locations, with no branch details.
- Branch listings created by different people with different names and categories.
- Closed branches still listed online.
- Different hours or services per branch that are not stated anywhere.
Any of these can lead AI to give wrong details or skip a branch.
Set a naming standard
Choose one format and use it everywhere, for example “BrandName – Neighbourhood” or “BrandName City Centre”. Apply it to map listings, directories and your location pages. Avoid adding keywords to listing names; it can break platform rules and confuse matching.
Build one page per location
Each branch page should include:
- Full address, phone and opening hours for that branch.
- Services or products available there, especially if they differ.
- Local context: neighbourhood, nearby landmarks, parking or transport.
- A short unique description, not a copy of every other branch page.
- LocalBusiness structured data for that specific location.
Link all branch pages from a clear store or clinic locator.
Keep brand facts consistent
While branch details vary, brand-level facts should not: company name, core services, policies, founding story and contact for head office. Write one master brand description and use it across profiles.
Manage listings centrally
- Keep a spreadsheet of every location with its official details and listing links.
- Claim and verify all branch listings on major map services under one business account where possible.
- Assign one person to approve changes.
- Update all channels the same day when hours or services change.
- Mark closed branches as permanently closed rather than leaving them active.
Reviews by location
Reviews attach to individual branch listings. A branch with few reviews may be passed over even if the brand is well known. Encourage genuine reviews across all locations, not just the flagship.
Test by branch
Ask location-specific questions for a sample of branches: “Brand near [district]”, “[service] open Sunday in [district]”. Check whether the right branch is named with the right hours. Prioritise branches where AI gets details wrong.
Franchises
Franchise networks have an extra layer: owners may manage their own listings. Provide a shared guide with naming rules, approved descriptions and an update process. See AI recommendations for franchises and how AI uses location data.
Prioritising branches
If you have many locations, start with the branches that bring the most revenue or face the strongest local competition. Fix their listings and pages first, test them, then roll the same template out to the rest. A consistent template makes it much faster to keep dozens of locations accurate over time.
