The most LLM-compatible format is a plain HTML web page with clear headings, short paragraphs and facts written as text. AI assistants can also use PDFs, video transcripts and tables, but each has weak points. If an important fact exists only inside an image, a slide deck or a video without a transcript, assume many AI tools will miss it.
HTML Pages: The Strongest Default
Web pages are what search crawlers and AI tools handle best. They are easy to fetch, easy to split into sections and easy to cite with a link. To get the most from them:
- Load the main text in the HTML itself, not only after scripts run.
- Use real heading tags in a logical order.
- Keep one main topic per page so it matches specific questions.
PDFs: Readable, but Second Best
Many crawlers can read text-based PDFs, and assistants do sometimes cite them. Problems appear with scanned PDFs (images of text), multi-column layouts and missing titles. A law firm that publishes its fee guide only as a scanned PDF makes it hard for an assistant to answer “how much does a divorce lawyer in Lyon cost”. Publish the key content as an HTML page and offer the PDF as a download.
Video and Audio: Add Transcripts
Assistants mostly work with text. A product demo on video helps people, but the spoken details are only reliably usable when a transcript or summary exists in text. Add a written summary under each video, with the main steps and facts, and publish full transcripts for longer content such as webinars or podcasts.
Images and Infographics
Price lists, opening hours and comparison charts saved as images are a common mistake. Some models can read images, but crawlers that build search indexes mostly rely on text and alt attributes. Always repeat the key facts from an infographic in the page text, and write useful alt text.
Tables
HTML tables are very useful for comparisons, specifications and pricing tiers. Assistants can lift rows when answering questions like “which plan includes X”. Keep tables simple: one header row, no merged cells, clear units. Avoid building tables out of images or complex layout grids.
FAQ Sections
Question-and-answer blocks match the way people talk to assistants. Write each answer so it stands alone in two to four sentences. Mark them up with FAQ structured data where appropriate; see FAQ schema for voice and AI.
Structured Data Feeds
Schema markup on pages and product feeds for shopping platforms give machines a clean list of facts: names, prices, availability, ratings. They support your text; they do not replace it. Our guide to structured content for AI explains how they fit together.
A Quick Format Audit
- List your ten most important facts: prices, services, locations, hours, key product specs.
- For each, note where it lives: HTML text, PDF, image, video or nowhere.
- Move anything that lives only in an image, scanned PDF or video into HTML text.
- Check that the same fact reads the same everywhere.
This small audit often finds the reason an assistant gives outdated or missing information about a business.
How Keboost Helps
Keboost shows you what AI assistants currently say about your business for the questions your customers ask, and where facts are missing or wrong. It then creates focused content in formats AI tools can read and cite. Run a free AI visibility check to find the facts AI assistants are missing.
