How to Make Your Business Data Available to AI Assistants
There is no upload form for AI models, but you can publish your business data where assistants look. Here is what data to share, and where to put it.
⚫ Millions ask AI daily ➜ 🔵 AI recommends YOU ➜ ⚫ Prospects visit your site ➜ 🔵 Convert to customers
You cannot upload your business data straight into ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude or any other public AI model’s knowledge. What you can do is publish accurate data in the places these assistants read: your website, your official listings, product feeds and trusted third-party sites. When your data is public, clear and consistent, assistants have a much better chance of using it correctly.
Step 1: Decide which data matters
Start with the facts buyers ask about. Make a simple spreadsheet with:
- Company basics: name, description, founding year, locations, contact details.
- Offer: products or services, prices or price ranges, what is included.
- Practical details: opening hours, delivery areas, languages, booking options.
- Proof points: certifications you really hold, notable clients you are allowed to name, awards.
- Policies: returns, warranties, cancellation terms.
This becomes your single source of truth.
Step 2: Publish it on your own site
Put each type of data on a page where it naturally belongs, in plain text: a pricing page, a locations page, a shipping and returns page, product pages with full specs. Avoid putting key facts only in PDFs, images or chat widgets, which are harder for crawlers to read.
Step 3: Use the official data channels you control
- Google Business Profile and Bing Places for location, hours and categories.
- Google Merchant Center product feeds for online shops, which feed Google’s shopping surfaces.
- Apple Business Connect for Apple Maps and related services.
- Review and comparison platforms in your sector, where you can usually edit your profile.
These are legitimate, free ways to provide structured business data to the platforms behind several AI tools.
Step 4: Make it machine-readable
Add schema markup that matches the data on each page: Organization, LocalBusiness, Product, and so on. Make sure search and AI crawlers are not blocked by robots.txt or your firewall. Keep your XML sitemap up to date.
Step 5: Spread consistent facts to trusted sources
Update industry directories, association listings, partner pages and press kits with the same data. Conflicting versions of your facts are one of the most common reasons AI tools get details wrong.
Step 6: Keep it fresh
Set a reminder to review your data every quarter, and update everywhere at once when something changes. Live search picks up changes faster than model training, so you may see some answers improve sooner than others.
What about AI knowledge bases you build yourself?
If you want an AI chatbot on your own website, you can load your data into it through tools that support retrieval from your documents. That is useful for your visitors, but it does not change what public assistants like ChatGPT say. For that side, see structuring content for RAG systems. For public visibility, the steps above are what matter. If data is already wrong in AI answers, read how to correct wrong AI information.
A note on private data
Only publish what you are happy for anyone to read. Internal pricing rules, customer lists and staff details should stay private. Public assistants can only use what is publicly available, so be deliberate about what you share.
