You correct wrong business information in AI answers by fixing the sources the AI relies on, not the AI itself. Assistants build answers from their training data and from live web results, so the error usually comes from an old listing, a wrong directory entry, a confusing page or a business with a similar name. Fix those sources, publish clear facts on your own site, and answers tend to improve over time.
Step 1: Record exactly what is wrong
Before fixing anything, write down the errors. Ask several assistants the same questions: “What does [business] do?”, “Where is [business] located?”, “Who owns [business]?”, “Is [business] still open?”. Save the answers with the date and the assistant used. If an assistant shows sources, as Perplexity and some ChatGPT answers do, note those links. They often point straight at the problem.
Step 2: Find the source of the error
Common causes of wrong information:
- Old directory listings with a previous address or phone number.
- Name confusion with another company that has a similar name in another country or sector.
- Your own old pages, such as an archived news post or a forgotten PDF with outdated facts.
- Third-party articles that got a detail wrong.
- Missing information, which leaves the AI to guess.
Search the web for the wrong detail in quotes. Wherever it appears, you have found a likely source.
Step 3: Fix the sources you control
- Update your website with a clear About page that states the correct facts in plain sentences.
- Update Google Business Profile, Bing Places, Apple Business Connect and the main directories in your sector.
- Remove or redirect old pages and PDFs that contain wrong facts.
- Add Organization or LocalBusiness structured data with the correct name, address, founding date and links to your official profiles.
- Make your social profiles match the same facts word for word where possible.

Step 4: Ask third parties to correct errors
For articles, directories or databases you do not control, contact the editor or site owner politely, explain the error and give a link to proof on your site. Many will update a factual mistake. If you share a name with another company, describe yourself in a way that separates you clearly, such as “[Name], the Manchester-based packaging firm”.
Step 5: Use the feedback tools
Most assistants let users rate an answer or report a problem. This feedback can help, but it is not a direct way to edit what the AI says, and there is no form that guarantees a correction. Treat it as a small extra step after fixing the sources.
Step 6: Check again over the following weeks
Assistants that search the web live can reflect fixes soon after the sources are updated and re-crawled. Facts that come from older training data can take longer, until models are updated. Re-run your questions regularly and keep a log. If an error comes back, look for a source you missed. See how to control how AI describes your brand for long-term habits.
