Get Listed in ChatGPT Answers: The Listings and Profiles Checklist
There is no sign-up form for ChatGPT, but the listings and profiles around your business strongly shape what it finds. Use this checklist to cover them.

The short answer
You can’t submit your business to ChatGPT, but you can make sure it appears in the places ChatGPT reads. Accurate, consistent profiles on major platforms, industry directories and review sites give ChatGPT’s search and training data clear facts to work with. This checklist covers the listings that matter most and how to keep them aligned.
Why listings matter for AI answers
When someone asks “reliable electrician in Brussels open on weekends”, ChatGPT often searches the web. Results for such questions are full of directories, maps and review pages. If your business is missing from them, or listed with old details, you are less likely to be included or may be described wrongly. Listings also act as confirmation: the same name, address and service on ten trusted sites signals that you are real.
Checklist 1: Core platforms
- Google Business Profile: categories, hours, services, photos, description, and replies to reviews.
- Bing Places for Business: often forgotten, but Microsoft Copilot uses Bing, and ChatGPT’s search draws on web results too.
- Apple Business Connect if customers find you through Apple Maps.
- LinkedIn company page with a clear description, industry and location.
- Facebook and Instagram business info sections with the same contact details.
Checklist 2: Industry directories
Every sector has its own places. Examples:
- Restaurants and hotels: TripAdvisor, booking platforms, local food guides.
- Software: G2, Capterra, product directories and app marketplaces of the tools you integrate with.
- Trades and home services: national trade directories, Houzz, Checkatrade-style platforms in your country.
- Health: official practitioner registers and booking platforms such as Doctolib where relevant.
- Professional services: bar or chamber listings, professional association member directories.
To find yours, ask ChatGPT and Perplexity your customers’ questions and note the directories that keep appearing as sources. More on this in directory listings for AI crawlers.
Checklist 3: Local and regional sources
- Chamber of commerce and local business association member pages.
- City or regional tourism sites, if relevant.
- Local news features and event pages.
Checklist 4: Consistency rules
- Use the exact same business name everywhere (no extra keywords stuffed in).
- Use one address format and one main phone number.
- Write one standard description of 1 to 2 sentences and reuse it.
- Link every profile back to the same website URL.
- Remove or merge duplicate listings.
Checklist 5: Keep it current
Set a reminder every three months to review your top listings. Update holiday hours, new services, price changes and staff changes. If you move or rebrand, update listings first, then announce it. Outdated listings are one of the main causes of wrong AI answers; see how to correct wrong AI information.
Claim before you create
Many platforms create a listing for your business automatically from public data. Before making a new profile, search for an existing one and claim it. Creating a second listing instead leaves two versions online, often with different phone numbers or opening hours. If you find duplicates, use the platform’s merge or removal process rather than ignoring them. Keep a simple spreadsheet of every listing, its login and the date you last checked it.
What listings won’t do on their own
Listings make you findable and verifiable, but they don’t make you the best answer. For that you also need strong reviews, useful content on your website and mentions in articles and guides. Treat listings as the foundation, not the whole house.
