🔵 For businesses that want more customers from AI search
How a Small Business Can Get Recommended by Gemini
A plain-English guide for owners who want Google’s AI assistant to know their business and suggest it when customers ask.
⚫ Millions ask AI daily ➜ 🔵 AI recommends YOU ➜ ⚫ Prospects visit your site ➜ 🔵 Convert to customers
Gemini recommends businesses it can find and trust in Google’s index and in what it learned during training. For a small business, that mostly comes down to a complete Google Business Profile, a clear website, honest reviews and mentions on local sites. No one can pay to be placed, but these basics improve your chances a lot.
What Happens When Someone Asks Gemini
Imagine a customer types “good bakery for a birthday cake near Nantes centre” into Gemini or into Google Search where an AI Overview appears. Gemini looks for businesses that clearly match the request, have a location that fits and have signs of quality, such as reviews and mentions. It then writes a short answer, often with a few names and links.
If your bakery’s website never says “birthday cakes” and your profile has no recent photos or reviews, Gemini has little reason to name you, even if you are the best in town.
Five Basics to Get Right
1. Complete your Google Business Profile
Choose accurate categories, add opening hours, services, photos and a short description in plain words. Answer questions people post there. This is one of the most visible sources Google has about local businesses.
2. Say clearly what you do on your website
Each main service deserves its own page. A plumber should have separate pages for “boiler repair”, “leak detection” and “bathroom installation”, each mentioning the areas served.
3. Ask happy customers for reviews
Ask after a job is done, and make it easy with a direct link. Reviews that mention the specific service (“they fixed our boiler on a Sunday”) help assistants match you to specific questions. Never buy or fake reviews.
4. Get listed where your customers look
Local directories, your chamber of commerce, trade associations and industry sites all count. Keep your name, address and phone number the same everywhere.
5. Answer common questions
A simple FAQ page that covers prices, delivery areas, lead times and payment options gives Gemini clear facts to quote.

A Weekend Starter Plan
- Saturday morning: update your Google Business Profile completely.
- Saturday afternoon: list your five main services and check each has a page.
- Sunday morning: write an FAQ with ten real questions customers ask you.
- Sunday afternoon: send a review request to ten recent happy customers.
Then ask Gemini a few questions a customer would ask and see what comes back. Try different wording too, such as “cake shop open on Sunday” or “gluten-free bakery nearby”. Write down which businesses appear and which websites Gemini links to. Repeat in a month and compare.
Things to Avoid
- Companies that promise “guaranteed Gemini placement”. No one controls Google’s AI answers.
- Stuffing city names into every sentence. It reads badly and does not help.
- Copying text from competitors. Original, specific text is more useful to both people and AI.
