Claude Doesn't Mention Your Services? A Troubleshooting Guide
If Claude names your competitors but not you, the cause is usually one of a few fixable problems. Work through this diagnosis step by step.

When Claude does not mention your services, the usual causes are: it does not know you offer them, your pages do not clearly describe them, independent sources mention competitors but not you, or crawlers cannot reach your content. Diagnose which applies, fix that first, and re-test over the following weeks. No fix is instant or guaranteed.
Step 1: Check Whether Claude Knows You at All
Ask: “What does [your company] do?” Possible results:
- Accurate description: Claude knows you. Go to Step 2.
- Partly right: it knows you but has incomplete or old information. Go to Step 3.
- Does not know you or confuses you with another company: your public footprint is too thin or inconsistent. Start with Step 4.
Step 2: Check Whether It Links You to the Service
Ask: “Does [your company] offer [service]?” If Claude says no or is unsure, your service is not clearly connected to your brand in public sources. A common case: a web agency that also does SEO audits, but only mentions it in one line on the homepage. Fix: create a dedicated page for the service, mention it on your profiles and in directory listings.
Step 3: Look for Outdated or Conflicting Facts
If Claude describes services you stopped offering, or misses new ones, look for old pages on your site, outdated directory entries or old press articles. Update or redirect your own pages and ask third-party sites to correct theirs. See fixing AI errors about your brand.
Step 4: Compare Your Footprint With Competitors
Ask the buyer question, for example “Who offers commercial cleaning for offices in Lyon?”. Note who is mentioned. Then search for those competitors and list where they appear: review sites, directories, local news, industry lists. Compare with your own list. Gaps here are often the main reason for missing mentions.
Step 5: Check Technical Access
- Does your robots.txt block AI crawlers, including Anthropic’s, by accident?
- Are service pages indexed in search engines? Claude’s web search relies on finding pages.
- Is key information in text, not only in images or downloadable files?
- Do pages load without errors?
Step 6: Check the Question Itself
Sometimes the issue is the prompt. If you only test “best [service] in the world”, large brands will dominate. Test the specific questions your real buyers ask, including location, size, budget or niche. You may already appear for those.
Quick Fix Priority List
- Create or rewrite a dedicated page for each missing service, opening with a clear two-sentence description.
- Update your profiles and directory listings to list the service.
- Ask clients who used that service for reviews that mention it by name.
- Fix any crawler blocks.
- Pitch one relevant publication or comparison article with accurate information.
Set Realistic Expectations
Answers that use web search can reflect changes after pages are re-crawled. What Claude learned in training changes only when a new model version is released. Re-test every few weeks with the same prompts and track trends rather than single answers. Answers also vary between conversations, so test each prompt more than once.
