A Claude recommendation strategy starts by choosing a small set of buyer questions where your business is genuinely the right answer. You then make sure the web clearly supports that position through your own content and independent sources, and you review progress every quarter. Trying to appear for everything usually means appearing for nothing.

Step 1: Decide What You Want to Be Known For

Claude tends to recommend businesses that clearly fit the request. Broad claims like “we do everything for everyone” make that fit hard to see. Write one sentence that defines your position, for example:

  • “The bookkeeping firm for restaurants in the Paris region.”
  • “The time-tracking tool for architecture studios of 5 to 50 people.”
  • “The bike repair shop in Ghent that fixes e-bikes the same day.”

Everything else in your strategy should support that sentence.

Step 2: Build a Prompt Portfolio

Group the questions buyers ask into three layers:

  1. Core prompts (5 to 10): questions where you should clearly be an answer. “Accountant for a restaurant in Paris.”
  2. Adjacent prompts (10 to 20): related questions where you could reasonably appear. “How to reduce food cost in a restaurant.”
  3. Brand prompts (5): questions about you directly. “Is [brand] good for small restaurants?”

Core prompts are your main goal. Adjacent prompts build authority. Brand prompts protect accuracy.

Step 3: Audit Your Starting Position

Run the portfolio in Claude and record three things for each prompt: whether you appear, who appears instead and how accurate the description of you is. Turn on web search where available and note which sources are shown. This baseline guides every decision.

Step 4: Choose Two or Three Priorities per Quarter

Resist doing everything at once. Typical priorities, depending on what the audit shows:

  • Accuracy first if Claude gets basic facts wrong.
  • Content depth if you are known but not named for core prompts, meaning your pages do not clearly answer them.
  • Independent proof if competitors are cited from review sites and media where you are absent.
  • Technical access if your pages are hard to crawl or important facts are hidden.

Step 5: Assign Owners and Actions

Each priority needs an owner and concrete tasks. “Improve content” is not a task. “Rewrite the restaurant bookkeeping page so it answers price, process and timeline questions by 15 March” is.

Step 6: Set Realistic Goals

Good quarterly goals describe direction, not guarantees:

  • Fewer wrong facts in brand prompts.
  • Appearing in more core prompts than last quarter.
  • Being cited from at least one new independent source.

Claude’s training knowledge only changes with new model releases, so some improvements show first in web-search answers. Plan for a slow, steady build rather than quick wins.

Step 7: Review Every Quarter

Re-run the portfolio, compare with the baseline and decide next quarter’s priorities. Retire prompts that turned out irrelevant and add new ones from sales conversations. Share a one-page summary with your team: what changed, what you learned and what comes next. Keeping the review short makes it more likely to happen every quarter.
