AI Visibility for Startups: A 90-Day Starter Plan
A simple three-month plan for early-stage startups to become understandable and findable for AI assistants, without a big budget or false shortcuts.
⚫ Millions ask AI daily ➜ 🔵 AI recommends YOU ➜ ⚫ Prospects visit your site ➜ 🔵 Convert to customers
A startup can build AI visibility in stages: first make your own facts clear and crawlable, then publish pages that answer buyer questions, then earn mentions on sources AI assistants trust. Ninety days is enough to lay those foundations. It is not enough to guarantee recommendations, because young companies have little history for models to learn from.
Why Startups Start Behind
Large language models learned from the web up to a cut-off date. If your startup launched after that, the model may know nothing about you. Assistants that browse, such as Perplexity, ChatGPT with search, Copilot via Bing and Google AI Overviews, can find newer pages, but only if those pages exist, are crawlable and are referenced elsewhere. That is why the plan below focuses on the live web first.
Days 1 to 30: Get Your Facts Straight
- Write one clear sentence about what you do: “Taskly is scheduling software for home cleaning companies with 5 to 50 staff.”
- Use that sentence on your homepage, LinkedIn, Crunchbase, app store pages and founder profiles.
- Add an About page with founding year, founders, location and product list.
- Check robots.txt so AI crawlers are not blocked.
- Add Organization structured data.
- List 20 prompts buyers would ask, and record today’s answers as a baseline.
Days 31 to 60: Publish Answer Pages
Write five to eight pages, each answering one real question. For Taskly that might be “How to schedule cleaners across multiple sites”, “Taskly pricing explained”, and “Taskly vs spreadsheets for small cleaning firms”. Keep them factual and dated. Honest comparison pages are often what assistants quote when buyers ask “X vs Y”. Our page on product comparisons for AI answers covers how to write them fairly.
Days 61 to 90: Earn First Mentions
- Submit to the directories and review sites your buyers use, such as software review platforms for SaaS.
- Ask early customers for honest reviews. Never write them yourself.
- Pitch one guest article or interview to a niche publication.
- Post a launch on communities where your buyers are, following each community’s rules.
A Note on Founder Profiles
For young companies, founders are often better known than the product. Make sure founder bios on LinkedIn, conference pages and podcasts name the company and describe it in the same words. When someone asks an assistant “who founded Taskly” or “what does Taskly do”, these profiles are part of what it reads. Investor announcements and accelerator pages can help too, as long as they repeat your core description accurately.
What to Measure
At day 90, re-run your 20 prompts. Look for small signs: the assistant now describes you correctly when asked by name, or cites one of your pages. Being named in broad category answers usually takes longer. Track AI referral visits in analytics too.
Traps for Founders
- Paying for “AI training data inclusion”. No one can sell that.
- Seeding forums with fake accounts. It breaks rules and can get you banned.
- Changing your positioning every month, which leaves mixed signals everywhere.
