How to Make Your Price List Easy for AI to Understand
AI assistants often quote old or wrong prices. Here is how to format your price list so assistants can read it correctly and describe it accurately.

AI assistants understand price lists best when prices are in plain HTML text, in a simple table or list, with currency, tax status, billing period and a “last updated” date stated clearly. Prices hidden in images, PDFs, sliders or scripts are often misread or ignored, which leads to wrong prices in AI answers. A few formatting changes can fix most problems.
Why AI gets prices wrong
When someone asks “how much does [your service] cost?”, the assistant uses whatever it can find: your pricing page, old blog posts, third-party listings or older training data. Common causes of errors include:
- Prices shown only in an image or a downloadable PDF.
- Monthly and yearly toggles where only one value is in the page text.
- Different prices on your site, marketplace listings and directories.
- Old prices still on blog posts or press releases.
- Missing currency, so “29” could be euros, dollars or pounds.
Formatting rules that help
Use real text, not images
Every price should exist as selectable text in the page HTML. If your design uses a graphic, add the same information in text next to it.
Use a simple table or list
A clean HTML table with columns such as “Plan”, “Price”, “Billing”, “Includes” is easy to parse. Keep one row per plan or service. Avoid merged cells and nested layouts.
State currency and tax every time
Write “€49 per month, excl. VAT” rather than “49/mo”. If you sell in several countries, list each currency clearly or explain how prices are converted.
Show both billing options in text
If you have monthly and yearly prices, show both values in the page text, for example “€20 per month billed yearly, or €25 billed monthly”. Toggle buttons that swap numbers with scripts can leave only one visible to crawlers.
Add a date
A line like “Prices updated March 2026” helps readers and machines judge freshness.
Explain ranges and custom quotes
For services priced per project, give a starting price and the factors that change it: “Website audits start at €300; final price depends on the number of pages”. This gives an assistant something accurate to say instead of guessing.
Add structured data
For products, Product and Offer schema can carry price, currency and availability. For services, you can describe offers in a similar way. Markup must always match what visitors see on the page. See our guide to schema markup for AI extraction.
Clean up old prices elsewhere
- Search your own site for old price figures and update or remove them.
- Update directory listings, marketplace profiles and partner pages.
- Add a note to old announcements saying prices have changed, with a link to the current page.
Check the result
After changes, ask several assistants “how much does [your product] cost?” over the following weeks. Assistants with live search may update sooner; others may take longer. If wrong prices persist, our page on fixing wrong pricing in ChatGPT has next steps.
Special cases
Some businesses have prices that are harder to show. Restaurants can publish their menu as an HTML page rather than only a PDF scan. Trades and agencies can list typical jobs with “from” prices, such as “boiler service from €90”. Businesses with member or volume discounts can state the standard price and explain who qualifies for lower rates. The aim is always the same: give an assistant one clear, current figure to work with.
