LLM Content Structure Validator: A Manual Checklist
Use this checklist to validate whether a page is structured so AI assistants can read, understand and quote it, with or without a dedicated tool.
⚫ Millions ask AI daily ➜ 🔵 AI recommends YOU ➜ ⚫ Prospects visit your site ➜ 🔵 Convert to customers
An LLM content structure validator checks whether a page is easy for AI assistants to read and quote. You can run most of these checks yourself: confirm the page loads as plain HTML, uses logical headings, answers its main question near the top, and states key facts in clear, self-contained sentences. Tools help speed this up, but the rules are simple.
Check 1: Can Crawlers Reach the Text?
- Open the page with JavaScript turned off. If the main text disappears, some AI crawlers may not see it.
- Check robots.txt so you are not blocking the crawlers you want. Our AI crawler user-agent list names the common ones.
- Make sure the page is not behind a login, cookie wall or form.
Check 2: Does the Heading Outline Make Sense?
Read only the headings, top to bottom. They should tell the story of the page on their own. Use one main heading, then h2 sections and h3 sub-sections in order. Skipping levels or using headings for styling confuses both people and machines.
A good outline for a plumbing company’s boiler page might be: “Boiler Repair in Leeds”, then “Common Boiler Faults”, “Repair Costs”, “How Fast We Respond”, “Areas We Cover”.
Check 3: Is There an Answer in the First Lines?
AI assistants often lift a short passage that answers the question directly. Check that the first two or three sentences of the page, and of each section, give a clear answer before adding detail. If your opening paragraph is a story about company history, move it lower.
Check 4: Are Paragraphs Self-Contained?
Each paragraph should make sense if read alone. Replace vague words like “this” or “it” at the start of a paragraph with the actual subject. “Our same-day repair service covers all of West Yorkshire” works out of context. “It covers the whole area” does not.
Check 5: Are Facts Easy to Find?
- Prices, opening hours, locations and product specs appear as text, not only in images.
- Comparisons use real HTML tables or lists.
- Numbers, names and dates match what you publish elsewhere.
Check 6: Is Structured Data Present and Correct?
Schema markup such as Organization, LocalBusiness, Product or FAQPage gives machines a clean summary of key facts. Validate it with a schema testing tool and make sure it matches the visible text. Markup that claims things the page does not show can reduce trust. See schema markup for AI for which types matter most.
Check 7: Is the Page Clearly About One Thing?
Pages that try to cover ten services at once are hard to quote. If an AI assistant is asked “who repairs Worcester boilers in Leeds”, a page focused on that service is a better match than a long general page.
A Quick Scoring Method
- Give each of the seven checks a pass or fail.
- Fix crawl access and missing answers first, as they block everything else.
- Then fix headings and paragraph clarity.
- Finish with schema and fact consistency.
Repeat the check on your ten most important pages before touching the rest. A clean structure does not guarantee a mention, but it removes the reasons an assistant would skip your page.
