The short answer

No. There is no official programme, form or partner network that adds a business to ChatGPT’s recommendations. OpenAI does not certify agencies to place brands in answers. ChatGPT draws on its training data and on live web results, so the legitimate route is to make your business clear, consistent and well covered on the public web.

Why this question comes up so often

As more people ask AI assistants for recommendations, business owners naturally look for an official channel, like Google Business Profile for search. Some providers take advantage of this by using words like “official”, “certified” or “approved” in their sales pages. Unless a provider can point to a public announcement from the AI company itself, treat these words as marketing, not fact.

What OpenAI does offer businesses

OpenAI sells products for businesses to use ChatGPT internally, such as team and enterprise workspaces, and an API for developers to build their own apps. Businesses can also build custom GPTs. These are useful tools, but none of them make ChatGPT recommend your company to the general public. Using ChatGPT Enterprise, for example, does not change what a random user sees when asking for “best HR software for startups”.

What does influence recommendations

  • Public information about you on your website, written clearly and specifically.
  • Consistency of your name, location, services and prices across directories and profiles.
  • Independent mentions in reviews, articles, guides and partner pages.
  • Technical access so search crawlers can read your pages. OpenAI publishes information about its crawlers, which you can use to set up robots.txt correctly.

Our explainer on how ChatGPT recommends businesses covers these in depth.

How to check a provider’s claims

  1. Search the AI company’s own website and announcements for the provider’s name.
  2. Ask the provider to show you the written agreement or public listing that makes them “official”.
  3. Ask exactly what they will do. If the answer is vague or secret, be careful.
  4. Be wary of any guarantee of placement, ranking or timing.

When “official” language is harmless

Sometimes a company uses “official” loosely, for example “our official ChatGPT guide” meaning their own guide. That is different from claiming a relationship with OpenAI. The test is simple: does the wording suggest the AI company approved or endorsed them? If so, ask for proof.

What about ads in AI assistants?

Some AI products are testing or running advertising. Where ads exist, they are labelled and separate from the assistant’s own recommendations, just as search ads are separate from organic results. If you buy ads, you are buying a clearly marked ad slot, not a place in the assistant’s independent answer. Always check the platform’s own advertising pages for what is actually available in your country.

What an honest service looks like

An honest provider says clearly that it is independent, explains which assistants it tracks, shows you the real answers it records, and describes the content and outreach it will do. It talks about improving your chances, not guaranteeing outcomes. For a full buyer’s guide, see how to choose a ChatGPT visibility service.
