How to Get Your Business Into Knowledge Graphs: A Step-by-Step Guide
The concrete steps to establish your business as a recognised entity in public knowledge sources, from your own site to Wikidata and Google’s panels.

You cannot submit your business directly into Google’s Knowledge Graph or into an AI model. You get into knowledge graphs by giving machines clear, consistent facts about your business and having those facts confirmed by trusted independent sources. The steps below go from what you fully control to what you have to earn.
Step 1: Build your home-base entity page
Your About page is the anchor. State your official name, what you do in one sentence, founding year, headquarters, founders or key people, and links to your official profiles. Write it like a factual profile, not a sales pitch.
Step 2: Add Organization schema with sameAs
On your homepage, add Organization markup with name, logo, URL, contact point and a sameAs list of your official profiles (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube, Crunchbase). Give it a stable @id, such as your homepage URL followed by #organization, and reuse it across the site.
Step 3: Claim and align your official listings
- Google Business Profile (if you serve customers in person or in an area).
- Bing Places for Business.
- Apple Business Connect.
- LinkedIn company page.
- Your industry’s main directories.
Use exactly the same name, address, phone and description everywhere.
Step 4: Make sure official registries are right
Business registries are strong signals because they are authoritative. In France, check your details on the official company register; in the UK, Companies House; in the US, your state registry. If your trading name differs from your legal name, mention both on your website.
Step 5: Earn independent coverage
Knowledge graphs trust facts that appear in multiple independent sources. Aim for coverage in local or trade press, interviews, podcast appearances, awards with real judging, and listings in respected industry associations. Each one adds a confirming source.
Step 6: Consider Wikidata carefully
Wikidata is a public knowledge graph used widely across the web. It has notability rules: an item usually needs to be backed by serious, public sources. If your business meets them, an item with accurate, referenced facts can help machines connect the dots. Do not create one purely for marketing, and disclose any conflict of interest. Edits without sources are often removed. The same applies even more strictly to Wikipedia; see our Wikipedia guide.
Step 7: Claim your Google knowledge panel if one appears
If searching your brand shows a knowledge panel, you can request to verify as its representative through Google’s process and then suggest changes. If no panel appears yet, keep strengthening steps 1 to 5. There is no form to request a new panel.
Step 8: Check how you are described
Ask several AI assistants “What is [your company]?” and “Who founded [your company]?”. Note errors or confusion with other businesses, then trace them back to the source. Our guide to AI knowledge panel optimization covers the panel side in more depth.
How long it takes
Steps 1 to 4 can be done in a few weeks. Earning coverage and recognition takes months or longer, and there is no guaranteed outcome. Consistency over time is what counts.
Mistakes that slow you down
Changing your brand name or logo often, using different descriptions on every profile, and creating Wikidata items without sources all make recognition harder. Pick one version of your facts and stick to it.
