Measuring Enterprise AI Visibility: KPIs That Leadership Understands
Enterprise AI visibility needs metrics that are stable, comparable and tied to business goals. Here are the ones worth tracking.
⚫ Millions ask AI daily ➜ 🔵 AI recommends YOU ➜ ⚫ Prospects visit your site ➜ 🔵 Convert to customers
Enterprise AI visibility is best measured with a small set of KPIs: the share of tracked prompts where your brand appears, your share of mentions against competitors, the accuracy of how AI describes you and which sources are cited. Track them by market and product line, and report trends monthly rather than single results.
Why AI Visibility Is Hard to Measure
AI answers vary. The same prompt can give different answers on different days, in different assistants and in different languages. Personalisation and browsing add more variation. This means single checks are unreliable. Enterprise measurement must use many prompts, repeated runs and averages over time.
KPI 1: Prompt Coverage
The percentage of tracked prompts in which your brand is mentioned at all. Split it by prompt type: category, comparison, problem and brand questions. A brand might score well on brand questions but poorly on category questions, which is a sign that AI knows you but does not recommend you.
KPI 2: Share of Mentions
Out of all brand mentions in answers to your tracked prompts, how many are yours compared with key competitors. This shows whether you are gaining or losing ground in a market even when overall AI answers change.
KPI 3: Description Accuracy
For brand and product questions, score whether the facts are correct: category, pricing, availability, leadership, locations. Track the number of open errors and how quickly they are fixed. This connects AI visibility to brand and compliance risk.
KPI 4: Sentiment and Positioning
Note whether answers describe you in the way you want: “enterprise-grade”, “best for regulated industries”, or “expensive” and “complex”. A simple positive, neutral or negative tag per answer is enough to show trends.
KPI 5: Source Share
For assistants that show sources, such as Perplexity, track how often your own pages or independent coverage of you are cited. Rising source share shows content and PR work is being picked up.
Segment Everything
- By market and language.
- By product line or business unit.
- By assistant.
- By competitor set.
Segmentation stops strong results in one area from hiding problems elsewhere.
Link KPIs to Business Results Carefully
Some assistants send referral traffic you can see in analytics, and you can ask new leads how they found you. Treat these as supporting signals. Avoid claiming exact revenue from AI visibility unless your data truly supports it.

Set Up Your Baseline Properly
Before you report any trend, collect at least a few weeks of data, run each prompt more than once and agree which competitors are in scope. Freeze the core prompt list for at least a quarter so numbers stay comparable. You can add new prompts, but keep them in a separate group until they have their own history. Write down how each KPI is calculated, so a change in method is never mistaken for a change in performance.
