How to Evaluate Enterprise AI Search Visibility Providers
A shortlist method and a set of RFP questions for enterprises choosing an AI search visibility tool or service.

To choose an enterprise AI search visibility provider, write down your requirements first, send a short set of RFP questions, then run a paid or free pilot on your real prompts before signing anything long-term. Judge providers on transparency, coverage and the quality of their recommendations, not on promised rankings.
Step 1: Write Your Requirements
Agree internally on what you need before talking to vendors:
- Markets and languages: for example, English, German and French across five countries.
- Assistants: which ones your buyers use, such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot or Perplexity.
- Scale: number of brands, product lines and prompts.
- Users: who needs access, from analysts to regional managers.
- Services: tool only, or tool plus content and outreach.
- Integrations: exports to BI tools, single sign-on, data retention rules.
Step 2: Send Focused RFP Questions
- How do you collect AI answers, and how often?
- Can we see full answer text and cited sources, not only scores?
- How do you handle answer variation between runs?
- How do you support multiple languages and regions?
- What actions do you recommend when we are missing from an answer?
- Which content or outreach work do you do, and which methods do you refuse?
- Do you describe yourselves as partners of any AI company? On what basis?
- What data do you store, where, and for how long?
- What are the contract terms and exit conditions?
Step 3: Score Answers Consistently
Use a simple scorecard with weighted criteria: data transparency, coverage, ease of use, quality of recommendations, security and price. Have at least two people from different teams score each vendor, for example marketing and IT.
Step 4: Run a Real Pilot
Give the two best providers the same set of 30 to 50 prompts, covering:
- Category questions (“best ERP for mid-size manufacturers in Germany”).
- Comparison questions (“[your brand] vs [competitor]”).
- Problem questions (“how to reduce inventory errors across warehouses”).
- Brand fact questions (“who owns [brand]?”).
Compare what each shows you and, more importantly, whether their recommendations are specific and sensible. A pilot of four to eight weeks is often enough to judge.
Red Flags That Should End a Deal
- Guaranteed mentions or rankings in AI answers.
- Claims of special access to AI models or their training data.
- Refusal to show raw answers or sources.
- Outreach methods that rely on fake users, paid reviews or link buying.
- Long mandatory terms before any pilot.
After You Choose
Set up governance and a contract that matches the pilot findings. See what to include in an AI search optimization contract and the overview of enterprise AI visibility solution types.
Involve the Right People Early
Enterprise evaluations often stall at the end because IT, legal or procurement were not involved. Bring them in at the requirements stage. IT can check security and single sign-on, legal can review data handling and claims, and procurement can align terms with company rules. Regional marketing leads should test the tool in their language during the pilot, not after purchase. A short weekly check-in during the pilot keeps everyone aligned and makes the final decision faster.
