You cannot validate an AI company’s training data, but you can validate the public information about your brand that AI systems learn from and read. Build one source of truth for your key facts, check that every public page and profile matches it, and fix errors at the source. Accurate, consistent facts reduce the chance that AI assistants repeat mistakes.

Why validation matters

AI assistants combine many sources. If your website says you open at 9:00, your Google profile says 8:30 and an old directory lists a closed branch, an assistant may pick any of them or mix them. Errors also spread: one wrong figure copied by several sites starts to look reliable. Fixing the source is the most dependable way to improve what AI tools say.

Step 1: Build a fact inventory

List every fact a customer or an AI might need about your business:

  • Legal and brand name, founding year, headquarters
  • Locations, opening hours, service areas
  • Products or services, with current names
  • Prices or pricing model
  • Key people and their roles
  • Policies: returns, warranties, delivery

Give each fact an owner and a “last checked” date. This becomes your source of truth.

Step 2: Check your own website first

Search your site for each fact. Old blog posts often mention past prices or discontinued products. Update them, add a note explaining the change, or redirect pages that no longer make sense. Make sure structured data (like Organization or Product schema) matches the visible text.

Step 3: Audit external profiles

Check the places that describe you: Google Business Profile, Bing Places, Apple Business Connect, LinkedIn, industry directories, review platforms, marketplaces and Wikipedia or Wikidata if you have an entry. Correct what you control. For sites you do not control, use their official correction process. Note that Wikipedia has strict conflict-of-interest rules; read Wikipedia and AI credibility before touching it.

Step 4: Ask the AI assistants

Ask several assistants direct questions: “What does [brand] charge?”, “Where is [brand] based?”, “Who founded [brand]?” Record the answers and, where shown, the sources. Perplexity shows source links, which makes tracing errors easier. Answers vary, so ask more than once.

Step 5: Trace and fix errors

For each wrong answer, look for the likely source. Common culprits:

  • An outdated page on your own site still indexed by search engines
  • A scraped directory copying old data
  • A news article about a past event, such as a closed office
  • Confusion with a similarly named company

Fix or update the source, then strengthen the correct version by publishing it clearly on your site. If names are being confused, add clear disambiguation on your about page (“not to be confused with…”). For pricing errors specifically, see how to correct wrong AI pricing.

Step 6: Validate new content before publishing

Add a short check to your publishing routine: does this page match the fact inventory? Are numbers dated? Is any claim impossible to back up? This stops new errors from entering the web.

Keep a rhythm

Review the inventory every quarter and after any big change: new prices, a move, a rebrand. Then re-ask the AI assistants your test questions.
