A genuine industry award can help AI assistants describe your brand, because it is an independent signal published on someone else’s website. But the award itself is not a ranking switch. What helps is a credible award, announced by a respected organiser, reported by others, and described clearly on your own site.

Why awards can matter to AI answers

When a buyer asks “which accounting firms in Bordeaux are well regarded?” or “what are the best-rated coffee roasters in Belgium?”, assistants look for sources that signal quality. An awards page listing winners, a trade magazine article about the results, or a local news story are exactly the kind of independent sources that can be cited. They also add useful descriptive words, such as “award-winning” with a clear reason attached.

Which awards carry weight

Not all awards are equal. Signals of a credible award include:

  • A known organiser, such as a trade association, chamber of commerce, respected publication or professional body.
  • A public judging process and clear criteria.
  • A public list of winners that stays online.
  • Coverage by other outlets, not only by the winners.

Be careful with “awards” that anyone can win by paying a fee, or that are sent unsolicited by email to thousands of businesses. These often have little independent coverage, and readers who check may see them as a red flag. Assistants that compare sources may also give them little weight.

How to document an award on your site

  1. Create a short news page stating the award name, organiser, year, category and why you won, with a link to the organiser’s winners list.
  2. Mention it on the relevant service page, not only on the homepage. “Winner of the 2025 Regional Craft Bakery Award for sourdough” belongs on the sourdough page.
  3. Keep the facts exact. Do not round “finalist” up to “winner” or drop the year. Precise claims are more trustworthy and easier to verify.
  4. Update your about page and profiles, such as LinkedIn and industry directories, with the same wording.

Getting coverage beyond your own site

Share the news with the organiser, your local press and trade publications. A short, factual press release can help. Our guide on press release distribution for AI covers how to make releases useful rather than promotional. Partners and suppliers may also want to share your win.

What awards cannot do

An award will not make an assistant recommend you for questions unrelated to it. It will not outweigh poor reviews or wrong business details. And it will not push you into answers on its own if assistants cannot find other information about you. Think of it as one strong piece of evidence among several, alongside reviews, mentions and clear content. Read more in increasing brand trust signals for LLMs.

If you have no awards yet

Look for credible awards in your sector and region, check entry criteria, and enter where you have a real story to tell. Other forms of independent recognition work in a similar way: certifications from recognised bodies, membership of professional associations, or being featured in a respected guide.
