ChatGPT shows wrong prices for a business when its training data holds old prices, when it reads outdated pages through web search, or when your pricing is unclear and it has to guess. You cannot edit ChatGPT’s answers directly. You can make your current prices easy to find and read, and clean up the old prices that still appear across the web.

Where wrong prices come from

  • Old pricing in training data. If your prices were widely published a year or two ago, that version may be what the model learned.
  • Third-party pages. Comparison sites, review platforms, blog posts and forum threads often quote prices and rarely update them.
  • Your own archive. Old blog posts, launch announcements and PDF brochures with earlier prices.
  • Hidden or dynamic pricing. Prices shown only after a form, inside a calculator, or loaded by scripts that crawlers cannot read.
  • Currency and tax confusion. Monthly vs yearly, with or without VAT, euros vs dollars.

Check what ChatGPT says, and why

Ask ChatGPT “How much does [business] cost?” and “What plans does [business] offer?”. When it searches the web, it often shows the sources it used. Click them. If one is an old comparison article, you have a clear target. If no source is shown, the answer may come from training data, which means you need to strengthen current sources across the web so later answers and future model versions have better material.

Make your current pricing unmistakable

  1. Publish a public pricing page in plain HTML text, even if you also use a calculator.
  2. State the currency, whether VAT is included, and the billing period next to every price: “€49 per month, excl. VAT, billed monthly”.
  3. Add a visible “Prices updated: [month year]” line.
  4. If prices depend on the project, give clear ranges and the factors that change them, for example “Website projects usually range from €3,000 to €8,000 depending on page count and integrations”.
  5. Add a short FAQ: “Is there a free plan?”, “Do you offer annual discounts?”, “Are there setup fees?”.

Clean up old prices

Search the web for your brand name plus an old price. For your own pages, update or remove them, or add a note at the top saying the prices are historical. For third-party pages, contact the site owner with a short, polite correction and a link to your pricing page. Keep a list of what you sent and when.

Keep listings in sync

If you sell through marketplaces, app stores or software directories, update prices there whenever you update your own site. A mismatch between your site and a big directory gives AI two competing answers.

When prices change, say so

A short changelog or announcement such as “From 1 September 2026, the Team plan moves from €39 to €45 per month” helps AI connect old and new prices. Without it, the old price may look just as valid.
