To update brand information across the AI web, change the facts at the source first (your own website), then update every public profile, directory and listing that repeats those facts, and keep them identical everywhere. AI assistants learn from training data and from live web results, so new facts reach them as consistent, fresh sources replace the old ones. There is no single form you can submit to fix every assistant at once.
Why old information sticks in AI answers
An AI model is trained on a snapshot of the web. If your company moved office or renamed a product after that snapshot, the model may still remember the old version. Assistants that search the web, such as ChatGPT with browsing, Perplexity, Copilot (which uses Bing) and Google AI Overviews, can pick up newer pages. But if half the sources they find still show the old details, the answer may mix both.
So the job is not to “tell the AI”. The job is to make the correct version the clear majority across the sources AI reads.
Step 1: Write down your single source of truth
Before touching any profile, create one short internal document with the exact facts you want repeated:
- Official company name and any former names
- Address, service areas and opening hours
- Products or services, with current names
- Pricing or price ranges, if you publish them
- Founding year, founders and leadership
- Phone, email and main website URL
Use this wording everywhere. Small differences, like “Ltd” on one site and “Limited” on another, make it harder for systems to connect the sources to one entity.
Step 2: Fix your own website first
Your website is the source you control fully. Update the About page, contact page, footer, pricing page and product pages. Remove or redirect old pages that describe discontinued services. Then update your structured data, such as Organization and LocalBusiness markup; our guide to JSON-LD for company information shows which fields matter. If you changed something big, like a name or a merger, add a clear sentence such as “Formerly known as X” so both names point to the same company.
Step 3: Update the profiles AI often cites
Next, go through the third-party places that describe you. Common ones include:
- Google Business Profile and Bing Places
- Apple Business Connect for Apple Maps
- LinkedIn company page and founder profiles
- Industry directories and review platforms (for example Capterra or G2 for software, TripAdvisor for hospitality)
- Wikidata or Wikipedia, only if an entry already exists and you follow their editing rules
- Crunchbase or similar business databases
Keep a spreadsheet of each source, the date you updated it and who owns the login. You will need it next time something changes.
Step 4: Publish fresh content about the change
A short news post, a press release or an updated FAQ gives search-based assistants a recent page that states the new facts clearly. Put the key fact in the first sentence. For example: “From March 2026, our Lyon clinic is open on Saturdays from 9:00 to 13:00.” Plain, dated statements are easy for AI to quote.
Step 5: Check the answers and repeat
After a few weeks, ask several assistants the questions customers ask: “What are the opening hours of [brand]?” or “How much does [brand] cost?” Note which ones still show old facts and look at the sources they cite. Perplexity and Copilot show links, which helps you find the outdated page. Fix that source, then check again later. Models that rely on older training data may take longer to change, and no one can promise a date.
